David Shirgley
David Shrigley, born in Macclesfield, UK, 1968, currently works and lives in Brighton. In 1987 he completed the Art and Design Foundation course at Leicester Polytechnic and then went on to study Environmental Art at the Glasgow School of Art until 1991. Through his signature illustrative style, his visual work provides a satirical commentary on the everyday universal human experience. His often quick-witted remarks and deadpan humour uncover over-heard comments, slight remarks and Freudian slips, which make his images highly relatable and more often than not humorous. He has had notable collaborations with the band Blur and The Guardian Newspaper. In 2013 he had a distinguished exhibition at the Hayward Gallery and was also nominated for the Turner Prize. He was commissioned to create a piece for the the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in 2016. He has exhibited internationally with notable shows in Denmark, Sweden and Australia, among others.
